(Benjamin Teixeira de Aguiar) – Eugênia, on May 17th, we celebrate the International Day Against LGBTphobia. Could you tell us something about this?
(Spirit Eugênia-Aspásia) – It is an inexhaustible theme that demands constant revisiting for fresh reflection and broader debate. If we address it with consistency and depth—within the psyches of individuals and collectives, as well as in human culture at large—we may succeed in eradicating every form of violence against LGBT people, ranging from the most blatant acts to those that appear innocuous, such as the humor that fosters hatred and self-hatred.
(BTA) – Which specific topic within this subject would you like to highlight?
(EEA) – We must begin by acknowledging that—largely due to the percentage of people with the potential for bisexuality, even if they do not actively live it out—the LGBT+ community actually comprises the majority of the Earth’s population; it does not constitute a minority, as is so often claimed.
On the other hand, let us remember the extent to which religion and legislation—in most corners of the planet—still condemn sexual identities that deviate from the standard cisgender heterosexual model. These two pillars of civilization—temples and courts—require a radical update. Consequently, this would allow media and mass communication sectors—supported by quality journalism and established press outlets—to echo what scientific academia and the artistic vanguard have asserted for decades: that diverse manifestations of sexual orientation and gender identity are natural expressions of the human condition. (BTA) – And this isn’t accomplished overnight, nor easily…
(EEA) – No. The undertaking is immense and will consume decades of concerted effort by citizens, organizations, countries, and churches; yet, it will not fade until it fully achieves its objectives, for it enjoys the guardianship of the great Spiritual Authorities who, in the Name of God, guide the destinies of the world.
(BTA) – I wouldn’t know what else to ask about the subject. I feel overwhelmed by the complexity and the pain that permeate it.
(EEA) – Because you have lived it deeply since childhood, and—in your adult life—have been willing to study it and, above all, to debate it systematically and publicly, including on television, starting in the early 1990s. Thus, the distressing nuances and the contours of grave urgency surrounding the topic do not escape you—unlike what happens, in a way, with cisgender heterosexuals and even with members of the LGBT+ community who, however enlightened, do not dedicate themselves to the work of raising awareness and liberating souls as you have done before the multitudes for over 30 years.
(BTA) – It is incredible how irritating the topic seems to be for so many people.
(EEA) – And infuriating—in the sense of provoking violent, murderous, suicidal, and genocidal rage—but only for those immersed in the primitive mindset of a base, backward ego, crystallized in the rearguard of reactionary conservatism and focused on immediate personal gain.
Conversely, the spiritual power protecting this cause and those who strive to defend it proves invincible, for it originates from the Divinity. Furthermore, the evolutionary moment in history has arrived for this issue—rooted for millennia in the cultural universe of the physical plane—to be properly addressed and resolved, regardless of the time and energy such an undertaking demands of individuals and entire communities.
(BTA) – You touched upon another consequence of LGBTphobia: suicide…
(EEA) – Yes. LGBTphobia is one of the factors that, alongside militant atheism, most fuels a distaste for life, a loss of existential purpose, and a lack of joy and idealism; it causes, so to speak, the death of the soul in millions of beings, even if many never commit an act of lethal violence against themselves or others.
We observe with deep sorrow the massive scale reached by cynicism, nihilism, and the dismantling of the foundations of morality and spirituality, as well as the impact of the moralistic, irrational, and criminal anathemas leveled against LGBT people—often expressed in monstrous statements, such as those of a religious nature that deem them “abominations” from the cradle throughout their entire lives, whether within or outside the realm of dense matter.
This is a diabolical movement that, as we highlighted earlier, originates from two of society’s most important sectors—law and religion—which ought, in principle, to have a duty to combat discrimination of every kind, whether based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other human characteristic.
May leaders and ordinary people alike—from all walks of life and backgrounds—grasp the importance of this matter and discuss it seriously, ranging from the sanctuary of the home to the most influential platforms for sharing ideas and values. Let this be done to safeguard the vast multitudes of suffering, troubled, and desperate hearts that are in need of succor—never of attack.
