Faith does not exempt us from suffering the vicissitudes of existence, but it helps us go through them with gallantry and relative peace, despite the conflicts.
Here is a paradox. Although the turmoil of purgatory around pierces our souls and, in a way, afflicts us, we can find peace by remaining active in the search for solutions and trusting in the Divine Providence.
Just as Jesus, in the Christic Plane, faced the Passion, all human beings, especially martyrs, saints and mediums, equally carry their cross, in different ways and to varying degrees.
It is an archetypal, mythical, mystical experience. The forces of evil exist and oppose those of the good. It is up to each creature to use the energy that flows between the two poles, channeling it in a constructive, resolute, altruistic way.
