 Clear the passages to your soul. Do not fear your feelings. Let them flow freely, even if, after having allowed them to emerge into consciousness, you decide not to turn them into behavior.

The connection between the conscious and unconscious mind is fundamental for the fullness of the being. The mind is similar to an iceberg. The conscious part is a very small tip – which does not tell of the giant block of ice that lies below, underneath the water.

Try therapy, talking to friends, opening up to someone you fully trust, counseling with your spiritual mentor. In short: seek to reconnect with your deep self, by all means within your reach, externally speaking.

And above all, devote yourself to prayer, to meditation, to reflecting on serious subjects, to good spiritual reading, to anything that, in terms of internal attitudes, leads you to dive into the ocean of your most sacred waters, the psychic waters of your deep unconscious.

Deep down, after facing all the dragons and dangers – most of them imaginary – you will find the Light of God, shining with opportunities of being and of self-realization, just like the Discoverers of the Americas, who feared being swallowed by fearsome dragons, and, yet, after crossing the vastness of the oceans, found the New World…

You will discover your New World of unknown happiness, of unthinkable possibilities, of unimaginable growth for now. You cannot even imagine what is to come, of wonderful and grandiose nature, which the Divine Providence, in Its Infinite Love, has reserved for you.

In the 1600s, we said: “Oh, Earth is not the center of the universe that God created!”

In the 1700s, we spread to the four corners of the world: “Wow! God created everything from Mathematics!” In the 1800s, we shouted angrily: “It is a lie! God does not exist! It is a mere instrument of manipulation for the powerful! Only reason brings truth!”

In the 1900s, we condescended: “Religion is important as a social phenomenon that promotes peace among the masses, but let’s leave it to the ignorant. We, the educated, need to remember that God is a creation of the primitive mind.”

In the 2000s, we split up, some saying: “God exists, even the brain perceives Him/Her, the same way it perceives the material world”; others, adding to the general confusion, state: “Nonsense, it is all brain’s biochemistry!”

In the 2100s, we will unite again, postulating, in the unison common sense that will be made universal, in a great synthesis of the historical phenomenon of the evolution of ideas about God: “Religions can be retrograde, fanaticism can cause atrocities, however, God not only exists, but also utilizes the biochemistry of our neurophysiology to communicate with us.”

If I could say in a few words what I think is essential, I would say: don’t forget the past, don’t be a prisoner of the past, learn with the past and move towards the future, enjoying every single opportunity in the present time to build your destiny. I know this sounds crazy, but it isn’t. Instead, it’s one of the most important paradoxes we need to profoundly understand in order to widely apply it to our lives.

I was an immigrant who went to the USA seduced by the American dream. I had a sports car, a big house and a beautiful blue eyed wife, which were everything I believed I had to conquer to be happy.

However, what I didn’t know at the time, was how much would cost my soul to try living the adventure of fate confronting my infantile desires. I sold my soul to the devil, as they say.

To abandon my country, my beloved ones, my culture, my language turned out to be my true entrance to hell. I didn’t know, in my youth, how much important it is for self-fulfillment to be honest with oneself and follow the path of the heart, of our personal beliefs, our noblest goals – those which don’t have links with the ego or self-concern, ironically.

In the end of my unfortunate trip to the nightmare, I died in my fifties, before a tragic divorce with the consummate hatred of my ex-wife and my three children, broken and depending on the charity of strangers to survive.

If you wish the same of what I stupidly wanted in my last life in the body, I warn you, with your best interests at heart: don’t do it. Immigrating to attend to a spiritual calling to study, work or absorb new values is a great act of braveness. But if you are motivated only by material passions, stop now and choose to educate your mind, launching yourself into a higher level of consciousness, learning to extract joy and happiness from your present life’s situation, fighting and working hard to change your fate in the very place you are now.

The human being always has the power to change him or her destiny, to rebuild him or her circumstances, with determination, humility and also by becoming a little bit of a maverick. This is not to think small, but exactly the opposite: this means to believe in yourself and in your folks to make a difference, without appealing to the achievements or ideals of other nations or individuals.

(Spirit Eugênia) – If he really defended this thesis, the author has made an enormous and regrettable mistake, leading millions of people around the world to inadequate thoughts, feelings and attitudes. He was brave, no doubt, to present the subject so openly, but he did not understand the subject with the depth he assumed he had. People contemplate pain, and inflict suffering to each other, because they are desperately needy and insecure and not because this very behaviour generates pleasure. In the complex intricacies of human mind, magnificently capable of almost miraculous juggling to adapt to any circumstance, people end up associating pleasure to painful situations, as an ultimate tactic to endure and transcend unbearable situations. Thus, what sadomasochism reveals, not only in terms of the known sexual perversion, but in all its daily manifestations in the life of individuals and peoples, is what human mind and soul, brilliant in their divine ability to generate life amid unfavourable conditions, can get to do, to make life possible, when it becomes almost unviable.

Since suffering is a mechanism inseparable from the process of life, in more primitive levels of evolution, such as those on Earth, as a means to compel beings to transcendence, by the destruction of the old and the inadequate and the incitement of the new and appropriate, many decide to fall in love with the ways of oppression and destruction that characterize them, instead of focusing on their superior purposes of growth and evolution of the beings.

On the other hand, another profound cause exists, although indirect, in a false ideology of survival in the lowest levels of expression of consciousness, that we could call the win/lose paradigm, as named by some authors of the physical plane.

According to this way of reading reality, in order for somebody to survive and thrive, somebody else has to lose and fade. In this manner, the sadists find pleasure in destroying and oppressing, whereas masochists, anxious to win the love of others, surrender themselves to unnecessary tortures, trying to fulfil the others’ impulse of supremacy.

Both postures are highly unhealthy and misguided, since it is known, from the analysis of tendencies in international politics, as well as from the games of commercial relations, that the only lasting negotiations, and indeed effective in promoting success, are those based on the win/win paradigm. That is: the happiness and success of one is only viable with the success and happiness of the other. All parties must win or all lose, because in the dance of winning/losing, the oscillation is something fatal: those who win today will inexorably lose tomorrow. It is curious and ironic to realize that sadomasochists, speaking of those who devote themselves to the familiar and bizarre sexual mania, know this, and establish rules, so that, ultimately, no one suffers “for real” and everyone has pleasure in the rehearsed drama of submission and dominance.

I will deal with saints and martyrs later on, although still in this dialogue.

(BTA) – Fantastic, Eugenia. What do you propose, as a cure, for these processes, that, by your perspective, are really pathological -am I right?

(SE) – Yes, you are right. We are not saying they are sinful, but pathological, as a complex deviation of the vital force to self-destructive and destructive behaviours, since they cannot manage with balance the renovation force that permeates all processes of life. To keep sanity, before what is incomprehensible to them, or to not burst in pain, before the revolt against what is inappellable: suffering itself, some more hedonistic souls create the intricate mechanism of sadomasochist fantasy to survive their low degree of self-knowledge and wisdom before the great questions of life.

What I recommend to people, who experience or feel tempted to follow down the sickening field of sadomasochism, is to know themselves more, in depth, so that they can understand that the complexes of guilt, inferiority, inadequacy and existential anguish before life’s apparent lack of meaning, can be processed calmly, generating well-being and peace, with no need to appeal to such compensatory mechanisms which, besides being morbid, may become dangerous, without mentioning the fact of wasting an entire transformational force that should be applied to growth, to the evolution of the consciousness, in search of higher levels of happiness and bliss, and not to remain stationed in pain, as an inevitable destiny of the human species.

(BTA) – Now, I believe that it would be compatible with the point to which our conversation has reached, for you to say something about the martyrs and saints of the past, right?

(SE) – Yes. What used to happen in the past was a failure in the understanding of the relationship between matter and spirit, body and soul. Thus the great mystics were induced to torture their bodies in the name of the spirit, because of, I repeat, an incorrect understanding of what life is and its processes of self-transcendence. Gautama Buddha, well before Christ, had already pointed to the great misconception of the ascetics that followed the path of laceration of the body, sexual abstinence and starvation, as a means to attain enlightenment. The great enlightened of the 6th century BC also said that there was such a great imbalance in this conduct, as there was in the excessive preoccupation with the welfare of the physical body, with total disregard for the needs and aspirations of the spirit.

As for the ecstasy felt by these people, when subjected to long and cruel abuse, once again, we remind you of the exceptional power of human mind and body to generate compensations for extreme situations. Athletes, in a state of profound exhaustion, after a long period of exertion, speak of the great pleasure they enjoy, because of the high doses of endorphins poured out in the bloodstream by the body on the brink of collapsing, some of them, to the point of, in fact, suffering from a premature wear-out or even death, because of the abuses perpetrated against the soma, in an attempt to repeat the sensation of pleasure in a supra-normal situation.

The same can be said regarding the use of other drugs that not endorphins – which literally mean: internal drugs – but also drugs that are ingested. When people are under the influence of alcohol for example, they have a temporary sensation of pleasure and relaxation, or excitement and agility in the case of cocaine, but the damages left in the brain are terrible and irreversible, because both drugs have the power to shrink it by the devastation of the neuronal tissue (cocaine much more). Not only there is no permanent gains in the state of consciousness (the state of pleasure is always temporary), as they still can get irreparable losses in the central nervous system and in others departments of the body.

If we observe those who make regular use of marijuana, we will clearly see the loss of cognitive, mnemonic, creative and abstract abilities in exchange for a pseudo-serenity that represents a drain of the psyche, which is mutilated, gradually, until the individual’s complete imbecility. This reminds us of what used to happen in past centuries, when doctors, with the best intentions, used to carry out bleeding in their patients to stop fever. Everyone around would cheer up with the immediate reduction of the feverish state –and it could not be different: the blood was drained out of the organism, to the point of it not being able to generate the urgent healing mechanism that fever represents – but, in doing so, they were promoting the installation of the aggressive foreign elements that the body was trying to eliminate through the fever.

Thereby, the body’s defenses were ruined, and people assumed, with that, to be saving the patient.

(BTA) – Eugênia, how brilliantly exceptional and wise your words are… Is there still anything else that you would like to tell us about this matter?

(SE) – That everyone be cautious with the pseudo-learned and, especially, with all doctrines, ideologies and principles apparently well elaborated, but whose base is sophistic, exactly because it is devoid of common sense, denied by the best principles of ethics, moral and justice. Many good and intelligent people, educated and well intentioned, let themselves be led by siren song of ideas of “vanguard”, but that, in fact, reeks of madness and delusion, leading their proponents, and those who follow them, to unhappy lives of anguish and dissatisfaction. The loss of peace and joy of living must be a strong enough sign of warning to those who venture into these mental lands of quicksand. And when we speak of peace and happiness, we do not refer to the fleeting moment of excitement and relief that addicted of all kinds feel at the time they fulfill their compulsion, but to the deep and lasting feeling of wholeness and balance that those who are aligned with God and the Flows of life enjoy. This sensation is unique and it is an unmistakable sign of the “elected”, as per the evangelical language: those who elected themselves to follow the steps of truth, the steps of life.

When you feel yourself in the imminence of a debacle, of losing your psychological balance, remember: the equilibrium principle exists in dynamic circumstances, and not only in static contingencies.

Say a prayer. Isolate yourself from the external world’s noises for a few minutes. Turn this attitude into a daily discipline. Do this, and then, soon, the mental collapse sensation threating the sanity of your psyche will be dissipated, perhaps more rapidly than you can imagine now.

After this, all you’ll have to face are the challenges to enter a new state of wider and deeper awareness that will bring in its wake more happiness, serenity and, most especially, a good tune with your Sacred Self. And, as a consequence, an improvement of your inner resonance with the Spiritual Masters, so that you may distribute such blessing with the multitudes that surround you!…

Do you comprehend the intuition that, despite the turbulence around you, you keep an unspeakable feeling of being on the right road – a path towards the inner work of self-knowledge and self-liberation from ancient crystallizations of thoughts, addictions and prejudices? It’s about this domain of experience that I speak of.

Life is rich in signs that our journey in this physical world is, simultaneously, a travel to new levels of meaning, higher levels, to insights to catch and live, perceive new concepts, feelings and experiences of our purpose in this present reincarnation!…

(Spirit Eugênia) – Yes, I do. May they have patience with their limits, but be not condescending with the limitations in their lives. For example: that they be at peace with the fact that they are not as intelligent as they would like to be, but do not content themselves with the level of culture and knowledge they have. May they be indulgent with the level of love they feel – always seen as deficient by those truly awakened for the Spiritual Light – but be not complacent with the lack of courtesy and solidarity they perceive in their behaviour.

(BTA) – It is very interesting this comparison between external and internal, between being self-indulgent but not complacent. Do you have anything else to say about it?

(SE) – No, about another matter. May they not postpone the love they can feel today – and show it. May they not delay the study of another language, the new course or the initiative for a new project at work, which they have been putting off for a long time. May they not ignore the need to start today, to exercise and care for their bodies. May they never neglect the spiritual disciplines of daily prayer, engage in volunteer services and attend a religious service. In short, may they not procrastinate anything in their lives, which they already see as correct and necessary.

(BTA) -Would you like to propose anything else to our readers?

(SE) – No, I would not. I just want to say that life is wonderful for those who know it and want to see it as it is: a magnificent journey of learning, growth and achievement. It can also become a hell, though, if we omit ourselves in the chapter of the essential – what we already know we should do and be.

And, thus, may they start their days, listening to their own intuition, to the suggestions of their consciousness, to the claims of their own hearts, making use of all techniques that they feel are appropriate, in order to align themselves with their own Core: prayers, meditations, visualizations, and, thereby, set guidelines for the day, always making sure to follow them, as much as possible.

Would you go to a biologist to address particle physics issues? Would you seek advice from a renowned magistrate about your general health?

Very well: this is what is frequently happening among those who declare themselves atheists – they belong to disciplines of knowledge or listen to opinions of authors or speakers who are not prepared to talk about the highly complex, dense and extremely profound theme of the “Existence of Existence” (excuse me the pleonasm, but it is just to give an idea of the absurdity of not accepting the Origin of Everything).

If you are not a person of limited intelligence or do not have a more serious mental disorder, and you call yourself an atheist, you probably suffer from a flaw of concept or information. It is probable (I repeat: if you are a person of average intelligence and mentally sane) that you suffer from a fair reaction against the clergy and dogmatism, due to the abuses committed by organized religions of all cultures and times, even those of today.

In counterpart to the denial of the existence of a Supreme Being, let me object: a very outmoded reply (it remind us of the Enlightenment of the 18th century and not of the multifaceted and immeasurable brightness of the human knowledge of the 21st century), neurotheologians, modern physicists internationally renowned, large factions of depth psychology, such as the transpersonal, the archetypical and the classic analytical psychology, as well as scholars of comparative religion; a significant contingent of parapsychologists and respectable anthropologists and ethnologists, not to mention a good portion of the medical community, specially oncologists and urgent and intensive care unit staff (who deal more closely with the phenomenon of death), millions of critic, clever and highly informed minds, are massively convinced that not only God and the Forces that represent Him/Her exist, as we ourselves are immortal creatures on the way to higher experiences of consciousness, outside the experience of the more condensed matter of our physical bodies.

However, if you prefer to stick with the opinion of the fireman speaking about electricity – which is not very different from historians and sociologists examining atomic physics or nurses treating of civil engineering, the choice, really, is yours, but be sure, nevertheless, that you give a very unpleasant impression of arrogance, ignorance and incoherence, to those who are more lucid, educated and intelligent than you.

Let us study the child: he/she has a pure heart, but an immature mind¹. Let us observe the adult: he/she often brings a corrupted soul, even though he/she has a trained and conscious intellect.

Where would the ideal condition be? Obviously, neither in one nor in other circumstance. In fact, separately, neither the heart can be properly pure, nor the mind has resources to be completely lucid. Feeling without reason is an open door to every sort of folly, as well as reason without feeling becomes an egotistic calculator of benefits and advantages, becoming not only inapt of intuiting values, but also incapable of catching a glimpse of great insights into the meaning, scope and purpose of things.

Seek, dear friend, the excellence of the intellect, but develop also, the field of your emotions. Start by becoming aware of what is going on in your heart, listening more to what your feelings tell you. They will teach you more than you can now imagine, they will keep you away from great dangers, they will warn you about fantastic opportunities of work, realization, love and happiness, and they will also make you a more alive, more present, more satisfied, healthier… complete person.      

Of course you should take care of your mind, but this you have already been doing, haven’t you? And if you do not do it yet, you know how to start. The education you received offers you all the ways to expand and enrich your mental values. Now, it is time to activate the other side of your soul, equally or more important than knowing and understanding: feeling, comprehending and experiencing. By the way, what does living mean? Could we not replace the verb “live” with “feel”?    

Listen to your heart, feed your spirit, love and intuit, enjoy life and delight yourself in every moment of your existence. Appreciate a landscape, dive into the listener’s universe while talking, surrender yourself to God when praying sincerely and fervently, dedicate yourself to poetry, to meditation, to prayer, to good music. Activate your brain’s right hemisphere. Wake your psyche to the greatness of asleep potentials that it lies within it waiting to bud.       

Feeling is living. Feeling conscientiously is becoming greater. Feeling sublimely is to become divine.
