Eugênia, do you want to speak to our netizens?

Yes.

What subject would you like me to address?

The subject about abuses of power.

Right. What do you have to tell us?

That it is human nature to commit abuses of power, even if it is in a very subtle way. For instance: the father who overly punishes his child, or belittles his or her opinions, for being a child; the wife who exploits her frail and needy husband, vampirizing him financially; the businessperson who abuses the needs and goodwill of their employees, who are earning little and working hard.

It is very difficult for people to see themselves as abusers. Usually, they have eyes only for those who abuse them.

That is exactly why I asked for us to speak about this. In this age of consciousness awakening and of universalized protest, individuals are, due to their low degree of psychological maturity, prone to see themselves as victims. This is not useful. It is important that each one sees, in oneself, what needs to be changed, instead of searching for flaws in others, because, proportionally to the level of conscience and to the personal history of conveniences or difficulties that each one has, very often the accusers have much less rights than the ones that are being accused. The mere fact of adopting the accusatory posture already denotes a certain deficit of lucidity and intellectual-moral development. Those who have matured have a high level of tolerance for the deficiencies and ambiguities of others. They defend themselves, but in a careful and controlled manner, never transforming the defense into a vengeful attack.

Abuse has many forms, not merely one. Sexual abuse is perhaps the least important one, except when it comes to children, who always deserve our full protection, because of their immense emotional and mental vulnerability, besides their obvious physical weakness. In the adult life, abuse is commonly generalized to one’s feelings, opinions, way of being, their choices, preferences and affinities. The look of criticism or disdain is often considered acceptable and normal, but, after a thousand times, it can lead someone to suicide or insanity. The sarcastic word or the initiative to humiliate someone, so common in interpersonal relationships, greatly reveals how people, on Earth, have strong inclinations to abuse, especially to abuse the weakest, or those of whom seem unable to protect themselves from the onslaught of others. Cowardice and vileness, thus, express themselves without punishment, and precisely because they choose situations where there are no punishments, these people are even more condemnable, contrary to those who, at least, have the merit of courage to confront what was established.

Do you want to say anything else about this?

Let each one of us remember the scene in which Jesus, before the adulteress caught “in the act”, at the imminence of being lapidated (stoned). He turned to those of whom felt so clearly superior to her, at the point of placing themselves in the position of divine avengers, decreeing and provoking her death: “Let anyone who is without sin throw the first stone.” And we could still give continuity to the Master’s thought and paraphrase Him: “Whosoever has the lesser sin throw the first stone.”

The adulteress could be rebelling against the abusive dictatorship of the time, of being forced to marry those she did not love, which today would be very well seen and even applauded, as an unprecedented courage of confronting murderous conventions, such as those of Jesus’ time, in the name of an ideal. But the question is this: at the time, she was regarded as a marginal of society, and the Christ was considered very merciful for defending her. Perhaps, it was not just that, but also the fact that the Master was protecting those who deserved protection, in a moment of extreme injustice.

In that occasion, Jesus releases the condemned woman and tells her to not “sin” again. Studying etymologically the meaning of the word “sin”, we will find the indication that the term is about “missing the mark,” which, without a doubt, what she had done, to a certain extent, was to confront an entire social system that would not change overnight. With that, we want to draw attention to the fact that, often, what is seen as a great mistake, in a certain time, can become, in future generations, not only not a mistake, but an exceptional accomplishment, just too avant-garde to be assimilated by contemporaries of the one who makes him or herself the messenger of progress. And, therefore, often those who attack someone for considering him or her an “abuser” may be acting much more like abusers themselves, in the eyes of God and His representatives, than those who they accuse. And, without a doubt, standing against the Creator Himself and His Emissaries does not seem to be good business for anyone. For no other reason, Jesus said: “You will be measured in the same way you measured others,” or, even more emphatically, “Do not judge other people. Then you will not be judged.” (NIRV, Matthew 7:1-2)

“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord hoas done this and it is marvelous in our eyes.” (Mark 12:10-11) We can easily infer from the above Gospel passage that whatever is rejected by the builders (i.e. those who shape society as it is, at any given time and place) strongly indicates a “turning point”, like the “cornerstone”, an evolutionary vertex within the context of a certain culture and time.

Dialogue with the Spirit Eugênia-Aspásia Medium: Benjamin Teixeira de Aguiar.

Delano Mothé – Dear Eugênia, could you give us some clarification regarding the Gospel passage transcribed below?

“Have you not read this scripture passage: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.’”(Mark 12:10-11)

Spirit Eugênia-Aspásia – In other translations, the term is “cornerstone”. We can easily infer from the above Gospel passage that whatever is rejected by the builders (i.e. those who shape society as it is, at any given time and place) strongly indicates a “turning point”, like the “cornerstone”, an evolutionary vertex within the context of a certain culture and time.

DM – And what about this other passage?

Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected: ‘Why was not this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.’ He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the moneybag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. (John, 12:3-6)

SEA-Judas asked the question not because he was the traitor, as it is mistakenly interpreted by Christian traditions to this day (1), but rather because of his refinement in the perception of moral and spiritual matters. He was in fact confused with the apparent waste of resources, which, for him, had been a misapplication in the act of the devotee, a purposeless luxury. Judas even knew that Jesus, Who even denied the title of “good” (2), did not expect this kind of idolatrous attitude. However, the Christ Verb of Truth granted us, due to the provocation of the most controversial of all Apostles, a new exhortation, in which He asks us to first devote ourselves to the essential, for all other things or matters in our lives to be added or resolved thereafter (3).

DM – And what about this one?

You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit. (John, 3:7-8)

SEA- The idea of stability, of permanence, of tranquility about achievements reached is natural to individuals. The fear of change is a problem of the human ego. However, to encourage progress, with less karmic burden — since evolution takes place in favor of or in disregard of the creature —, people and communities must open up to the Fluxes of the Divine Will, often with dispositions of destiny quite different from those usually established by programmatic and human expectations, such as good turns of events. Therefore, the apparently enigmatic Words of Jesus: “The ‘Wind’ blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going . . .” In ancient times—as in the ancient Greek language, in which the Gospels were firstly writtenthe word “pneuma” was applied not only to refer to “wind”, but also to “Spirit” and “God.” The Divine Will, or the Flux of the “Pneuma“, ultimately, is always inaccessible, because the Supreme Intelligence cannot be probed by the human intelligence.

(Benjamin Teixeira de Aguiar) – Eugênia, taking the opportunity that the Olympics are on, could you tell us anything about it?

(Spirit Eugênia) – Yes, the Olympics are a missionary initiative, whose inspiration comes from the high frequencies of consciousness, invisible administrators of the globe, of immeasurable proportions and importance for those who watch them in the physical world, but, in short, we could say that they channel the belligerent impulses of peoples, therefore giving vent to international tensions on the peaceful arena of sports. Note that, the more active a nation is in the field of sport competitions, the less often it gets involved in warlike confrontations.

(BTA) – The fact that most of the countries taking part in the Olympics, in a more qualified way, let’s say so, are also the most organized, democratic and developed societies in the world, wouldn’t this also mean that they are less warmongering? In other words: wouldn’t their valuable participation

(SE) – This matter is much more complex, although your line of thought is also well-founded. However, not other factor fosters, exclusively, an event of huge proportions, in a global scale, as the modern Olympic games. To give an example, the United States are the ultimate expression of an advanced society, in worldly terms; they participate gloriously in the Olympics, and yet, they too are always present in aggressive manifestations in battle fields, often taking the initiative of first attack. Hence, through exceptions we also come to know the principle. There needs to be a collective outlet for the agressive energy repressed. Football matches, for instance, watched in the United States and in Brazil (each one in its own modality), by millions of “enraged” men, well denotes this. Several championships a year, work as a drainer for concentrations of violence. Now, let’s imagine this, if even with these valves for deleterious psychic concentrations, Americans are so aggressive, how wouldn’t they be if these moderating resources of aggressiveness did not exist!…

(BTA) – Right. So, with regards to the World Cup, we could use the same line of reasoning to evaluate its higher purpose, couldn’t we?

(SE) – Yes. And observe that they were strategically interspersed every two years between each other, albeit each individual event happens every four years.

(BTA) – I believe I can safely say that, the organizers and creators of each event were not thinking about this, when they established this periodicity…

(SE) – Yes, but they were inspired to do so, even though their conscious motivations seemed to be different to them, such as giving the crowed a break from the adverts of the previous event, in order to be more effective with the new one. Many of the occurrences in the physical world happens this way: the motivations of those involved are often quite different from the original causes, in the Superior Plane of Life. Passions, stingy interests and all sorts of human vileness are usually used to foster great accomplishments towards the common good. It is obvious that, when possible, superior ideals are inspired. However, as it is known, humanity’s greatest advancements, in matters of material prosperity and even technical and scientific advancements, were not motivated by worthy impulses, but often by a craving for power, wealth and mean passions.

(BTA) – Anything else to say?

(SE) – Yes, that just as communities have conduits for repressed energies, individuals must also have theirs, in order not to suffer from psychic intoxications, caused by their own energetic constipations. When one suffers from curious mental dystonia, originated from these repressed destructive psychic forces, one often deems the malaise to external causes, because he will be very sensitive, irritable and hasty. Nevertheless, if he analyzed his inner situation in depth, he would realize he is very much susceptible and not exactly attacked too much. But those who are very touchy, hardly see themselves as such.

(BTA) – Would you have any suggestions for these people?

(SE) – I’ve already placed myself, indirectly, favorable to the practice of sports, for the enthusiasts of this kind of human interaction. Sports are especially interesting for those who are more active, such as overly aggressive and sexual men. But a hobby, a leisure activity in family, a moment of relaxation can have the same effect. Everything depends on one’s temper and his life circumstances. With no obvious alternatives ahead, one should try various options, until one or a set of them is found, that makes possible a more peaceful and centered state of mind.

(BTA) – You made a link between sexual and aggressive energy, and still associated their occurrence to men. Can you talk more about it?

(SE) – The male’s body and its own psyche, due to functional reasons of his psychosexual polarity, are much more prone to aggressiveness and sexuality, since both represent bodily and external energy, whereas women, because of their biopsychic conformation, are more focused on inner and spiritual activities, which are favorable to motherhood, to which they were programmed by nature. Obviously, cultural factors still contribute to intensify such predisposition. Considering the most grossly material aspects, besides the male cerebral structure be susceptible to outbreaks of fury (see study of brain’s amygdale, for instance) (*), some men suffer from an overproduction of testosterone that flood their bloodstream and can leave them electrical (in the worst sense): restless, irritable and highly sexual. This energy needs to be released or it “will explode” somehow. As the endocrine system of male’s brain, fosterer of aggressiveness and sexuality, is focused on the physical and external, sports are magnificently appropriate to help them to wear out some of the excess of energy. Men suffer a dilemma in civilized societies: they were psychically and physiologically designed to live in harsh situations of danger, confrontation and struggle for life, in a hostile and wild environment, and now, their organic and psychological system needs to live in calm, democratic and sophisticated environments (when compared to the context of the jungle). Women, designed for the delicacy of maternal role, easily adapt herself to live in a universe of verbal clashes (and no longer physical), of electronic and intellectual work (not manual).

(BTA) – Very interesting, Eugênia. Anything else to say?

(SE) – No, satisfied.

(Mediumistic dialogue held on August 29, 2004)

(*) The brain’s amygdale, a neurophysiologic region responsible for emotional reactions, is more sophisticated in women, so to speak, making them to unburden their stress by blushing, crying or speaking frantically in critical situations. In men, the same neural apparatus drives them to physical fights, even though almost all men oppose such impulse in society, to avoid living among slaps and punches against each other, as the way it used to be not so long ago in underdeveloped societies. The “good guys” and “heroes” in the movies, until today, are willing to brawl (when not to kill people), and men usually enjoy (psychological projections) such scenes that seem so rude to women – because they do not have such brain’s conformation.

(Medium’s note)

(Benjamin Teixeira de Aguiar) – Eugênia, in a magazine of general circulation, it was said about the “revolution of the seniors”. Populations, ageing, are achieving parity between the number of the elderly and the young, as never happened in the history of mankind. Would you have anything to say about the subject?

(Spirit Eugênia) – We are not interested in the socioeconomic and political aspects involved in a true paradigmatic and structural revolution in the organization of societies – this will soon be a challenge for the modernity, as the issues of Social Security systems and concepts of what work, retirement and disability are. We could call attention here to the symbolic, psychological and spiritual aspects involved in this curious revolution. And the first is that the human being is not body, basically, but spirit, since youth is just a beginning for old age. Youngsters are seeds of the elderly. Unless one dies before, one gets old. Despite the best techniques to prolong human health, vitality and longevity, one becomes older. Ironically, the advances of medicine are favoring the individuals, in terms of quality of life and life expectancy, precisely at the stage we could call as old age. The old people are living longer. This suggests that the human being cannot rely on their physical structure, one should not identify with it, or establish safety criteria or life goals, values or meanings, based on an evanescent and fragile structure as the physical body.

(BTA) – And what would you say to confront what you just told us with the concepts of youth culture?

(SE) – Simply childish. Who identifies with the body and a youthful appearance, as their greatest value, already reveals little depth of ideas and feelings. No comments.

(BTA) – Primitive cultures value the elderly as much as the most developed ones. What could you tell us about this line of reasoning?

(SE) – It is right. The more enlightened a population, the more it appreciates its full age elements, because they represent its more experienced and wiser stratum. Command posts and positions of responsibility thus will be increasingly entrusted to older people, though we can make exceptions to those who are qualified to occupy such prominent positions, even if they belong to age groups closer to the base of the population pyramid – by the way, increasingly less pyramidal1.

(BTA) – You touched on a reason that would be relevant to some of our readers. For us, who believe in reincarnation, would not be a contradiction to agree with this line of thought, since an older spirit can be in a younger body and vice versa?

(SE) – It is foolish to assume that a raw brain, less trained, is also able to receive complex information and to process intricate data the same way a more experienced brain is. Remember that the greatest wise men of the past, starting with Buddha and Jesus, waited to reach maturity body to act with great accuracy and safety. Today, neurosciences have advanced enough on earth to endorse the notes provided here. Neuronal corridors completely new arise from the exercise of intellection, so that more experienced brains see more clearly, with greater wideness and depth. On the other hand, it is important to consider symbolic and archetypal matters involved in the process of aging body. The mind is stimulated to be more thoughtful and serene, the individual lives the “role” of elder (or one is exhorted to this), each time that their body ages, in an incarnation. Forgetting other past lives asks exactly this total dive into the “situation” of the physical condition, and, obviously, such immersion has a powerful influence over states of mind and ways of feeling and understanding the world. Since the endocrine and neurophysiological systems until issues related to social functions and responsibilities for interpersonal relationships (in the condition of “grandpa” or “the most experienced man in the company”), everything encourages the spirit to exercise and live wisdom.

(BTA) – Very interesting. Would you have anything else to add to this matter?

(SE) – No. What matters most is to say that.

(Mediumistic dialogue held on August 19, 2004.)

(Spirit Eugênia) – How does one feel when trying to bribe the truth for oneself? One should not try to build a personal world upon speculations, fictions or wishes of truth, but on what one can understand as true, fair and good.

(Benjamin Teixeira de Aguiar) – This is interesting, Eugênia. But it is known that the human mind is capable of creating impressive juggleries and cunning ruses to hide from itself that it is constructing myths, illusions and rationalizations, with which “protects” itself from a reality considered undesirable. What to do to defeat or overcome, even if partially, this inclination that we could say is almost automatic and universal to the human being?

(Spirit Eugênia) – Through the practice of self-reflection. It is not at all impossible to undress oneself out of intentions, desires and selfish ambitions, to see things as they really are, and then, make reasonable decisions.

(BTA) – You make a challenge that is complex, subjective and highly difficult to be faced and especially overcome, among the current living people of our planet, sound extremely simple and obvious.

(SE) – And indeed it is. The point is that not everyone is willing to invest in simplicity – in other words: truth. The truth costs little to the world, to the spirit, to humanity. But it costs a lot to ego, to its raving pride and its desire for supremacy over others, always ready to humiliate, show itself off and present itself predominant over others.

(BTA) – So, how to tame the ego and succeed in placing the Higher Self in the control center of the conscience?

(SE) – Well done: now you asked the right question. It is not easy. When one succeeds in taming the ego, all spiritual questions seem to be and indeed become really obvious: great sacrifices sound like walk in the park and spectacular devotions like lives of pleasure and happiness. But taming the ego takes time, effort and, mainly, resignation.

(BTA) – And then?

(SE) – One can only wait for time to mature human creatures, so that they reach the required level of awareness that makes clear to them that nothing is worth it, unless the spirit is considered as priority. Like Jesus said: “Your fool, what’s the point to own the world, if today your soul will be demanded from you?”

(BTA) – Is there anything one can do to catalyze this process and facilitate the climbing to the level of consciousness of the Higher Self, instead of getting stuck at the level of the ego?

(SE) – Yes: reliable readings in the area; attendance to lectures, conferences, seminars and scientific conferences on the subject; to seek advice from men and women of a notorious knowledge in the field, as well as to be dedicated to researching and experimenting techniques of prayer and meditation. In short, the discovery and alignment with the Higher Self happens through the continuous effort to improving oneself, to know oneself and to ascend. Which is never rapid or easy, and may also take long periods of time.

(BTA) – Anything else to say on the subject?

(SE) – No, satisfied.

(Dialogue held on August 17, 2004).

(Spirit Eugenia) – Now, I would like you to receive a collective message.

(Benjamin Teixeira) – Do you want a dialogue?

(SE) – Yes, it can be. It is an interesting system.

(BT) – What do you want to talk about?

(SE) – I would like you to touch ground with the situation in Iraq.

(BT) – Iraq, Eugenia?

(SE) – Yes.

(BT) – What do you wish to say about it?

(SE) – What is a surgery, in more direct terms? A vivisection, with aspects of mutilation; a violent invasion of the body’s functions, with a long period of recuperation ahead, but with the intention to cure, partially or even fully, the lost or seriously compromised functions of the body, isn’t that so? What is anesthesia, before you even get to surgery, if not an under control poisoning, leading you to the brink of death, so that you can return more replenished into life – through surgical intervention? This is what is happening over there.

(BT) – But Eugenia… the counter-reactive effects are horrid. Iraq is on the brink of chaos.

(SE) – Imagine a body in the midst of a medical operation: open, innards exposed, bleeding, sometimes unable even to breathe by itself or under a cardiac arrest. What would someone say, if he did not know what was happening, when seeing a body in these conditions, being cut, bled and mutilated? That, indeed, it would be on the brink of death. Iraq, my son, together with many nations, to be rescued from the their great evolutionary deficit, in relation to the level of organization and social and political development of the planet, will have to undergo interventions, crises and collapses. Not all of them will require such a dramatic procedure, as a military intervention, but many will suffer crises, if not in their meanders, at least in their civilizational implications, as deep as those suffered by Iraq today. In a certain way, the United States are exerting democratic ideas, respect to minorities and equality of gender, modernity and continuous pursuit of progress, in the primitive Iraqi society.

(BT) – But, with these statements, do you endorse the American imperialist posture, their policing position when dealing with other peoples and their lack of respect, in many aspects, to the international community?

(SE) – I do not intend here to evaluate the American posture in the concert of nations, nor am I interested in the defense of war or any draconian procedure for the evolution of peoples. I am just drawing attention to the fact that, if something is permitted by God, who is infinite intelligence and wisdom, it is necessarily good and useful.

(BT) – Since you mention this, I ask you directly: do the United States overstep their limits over there?

(SE) – Yes, this is clear to anyone with common sense. But police also step over the limits, as justice can be too harsh in some circumstances. The International Community, the International Law, the treaties and agreements made among nations must be more and more strengthened towards the common good. However, it was natural to happen a certain setback in the sympathy of the U.S. to the dictates of the community of the world’s most democratic and mature nations. They were cruelly hurt in their national dignity, they are a warrior people, determined and, above all, they have an ideal that has always valued the “self-made-man” style. Hence: they are isolationist by a fundamental philosophical and political definition. In general, they expect no one’s approval to their procedures and objectives, if they find them righteous. It is obvious that such position can become dangerous, but they are indeed a christian and democratic nation. Within their own social segments of opinion and internal pressure, they already suffer enough restraint in order to not go beyond the strictly necessary. They should not inspire fear to any nation. They’re not exactly invaders or imperialist, as were empires of the past. They have features of empire today, given the enormity of their economic success in comparison to all other nations, with powerful implications in areas, such as culture and politics. On the other hand, those who rise against the U.S., this can be clearly observed, are not imbued with good intentions, as it may seem at first glance. They are nations with a dubious past, in terms of moral and spiritual quality. History reveals that these peoples have always been very self-centered and nothing suggests that they have abstained from this primary level of consciousness, this one dangerous indeed, if they had in their hands the economic and military power of the American empire. The European pride and its penchant for bestiality have been documented for millenia and it is not by chance that the Divine Providence has withdrawn their power and transferred it the United States, in order to keep relatively under control, its instinct to submit the world according to its will.

(BT) – Although I agree with what you say, Eugenia, I would like to relativise an aspect of what you said. Wouldn’t Europe have been sanguinary because of historical and circumstantial issues, rather than a cultural and collective temperament?

(SE) – If that was so, would they have betaken to two outbreaks of genocidal slaughter, such as the two Great World Wars? The United States, at that time, entered both wars to hinder the murderous rampage of the European pride. The rage that reappears with the “skin-heads”, more recently, and in every movement averse to immigrant communities, also confirms what we say. This is unthinkable, in the same extent as it happens in Europe, in the United States, a nation constituted of immigrants, a patchwork of diverse ethnicities and cultures. No matter how many social and economic elements exist behind the initiatives of war of the U.S. (please, we are not a community of angels), the core motivations of this great nation have always been noble ones. They were not disputing pieces of land at the expense of blood, like in Europe, but great ideals and achievements for the whole of humanity, as the War of Independence (1776), which anticipated and surpassed the French Revolution (1789) in its postulates, especially in the application of its assertions, and the Civil War (1861 – 1865), both in search of the freedom and respect to equality among human beings; the first war battled for these ideals, for every people; and, the second, for part of it: those of african origin.

(BT) – What a beautiful picture, Eugenia! I share it with you, wise as you always are. However, don’t you agree that many will find it rather romantic, if not naïve?

(SE) – It is naive to assume that, because they are the greatest empire in the world, they would not be tempted to abuse their limits. It would be naïve to assume that there were any economic interests embedded in all of their initiatives. The point is that, they don’t exclusively focus on these issues, they have values, moral and spiritual principles, as imprinted in their own currency with the mystical symbol of the all-seeing eye and the infamous phrase “In God we trust”, while hegemonic nations of the past only sought to invade and dominate. The United States never fought a people to conquer it. They don’t need this and they know it: they’re too good with trade and pragmatic relations to resort to violence in order to affirm themselves as a nation, furthermore, as I said, they have no vocation to violence, for they are a Christian people – aggressive, but truly Christian. Some people suppose they are smart, by realizing the obvious: that they always intend to take advantage, economically. Honestly, it sounds suspicious and demagogic to hear someone saying this, because it seemingly implies that other nations have no concern over their interests either. Which other nation in the world, however, would continue so democratic and pragmatic like the United States, with the power they have at hand?

(BT) – I agree, Eugenia. Brilliant, thank you so much. Do you wish to say anything else about the subject?

(SE) – Yes. There are always more effective systems, or more diplomatic and humanitarian ones, to undertake any initiative; war, therefore, must always be seen as the last resource alternative. However, just as negligent and permissive parents can corrupt the character of their children, because they intend to pass themselves off for very modern (better if they were overly severe and excessively disciplinarian, because at least they would have emotionally and morally strong children), the same applies to relations among nations. Better the reactions that are bitterly harsh, than no action at all, when one deals with uncivilized people who intend to submit the world to their whims. Terrorist communities, thus, deserve every vehement criticism and not the USA. There are deep strategic reasons to be solved, such as poverty and all forms of social injustice within nations and among peoples, however, it is not by attacking those who have more that one will conquer the right to obtain something. This is the culture of envy, not progress. May the rich become more conscious, as we slowly begin to notice improvements in this direction (what indeed will need to happen fully, with the “incentive” of terrorism, or human civilization as a whole will be in danger). Nonetheless, may the poor not to assume that the “easier” way of armed robbery and kidnapping is the suitable route for general happiness. When we see a rich man being kidnapped or having his children killed after an armed robbery, nobody blames the millionaire for it. Likewise, if the man who saw his children being murdered, in one of these attacks, soon after, pulled out a gun to react, even if ignoring the justice system, everyone would understand. The same pattern of reasoning should apply to the relationship among peoples. The USA are this rich parent who “lost his mind” and, instead of appealing for justice, decided to make justice for his children with his own hands, indifferent to the litany that the “poor kidnapper is the son a prostitute or a thief”. Poverty does not justify violence, as much as a furious reaction is not the best method to resolve the violence practiced by a wretched individual. However, to condemn who reacts violently to violence, more than those who took the first initiative, is, the least, illogical and incoherent, a distortion of correct thinking, usually motivated by an unspeakable envy of the most powerful country on the planet, that has reached its current position through its own merit, at the expense of the hard work and discipline of a people that, in general, is dilligent and honest.

(BT) – So, are there nations that are more honest than others, as well as more hard-working, etc?

(SE) – Undoubtedly. There are good and “bad” people everywhere, but nations have collective traces of character and personality, like individuals, attracting to their human conglomerates, spirits that are in tune with this general pattern. This is self-evident.

(BTA) Eugenia, a tendency is growing in the most civilized countries, as well as in the most educated classes of developing countries: a small number of children or even their absence, as a family option. What would you have to say about this?

(EE) It is expectable and desirable. The Earth’s natural resources are being depleted, ecosystems are overwhelmed. The collapse of the fragile biosphere would be a real possibility and very likely in the short term, if a decrease in the rate of population growth had not begun to happen, or even a decrease in population density itself in some regions of the planet. Here is a macro-analysis. This coincides, on the other hand, with the needs of attention, care and education that children and teenagers require for a healthy development and, in a world where parents have fewer children, this can happen more easily, because adults have more time available and more emotional space for their offspring, add to that, having children more for vocation rather than obligation, like in the past, as today couples are allowed to opt for not having children.

But this happens, as I said, precisely in the richest countries or the wealthiest classes of poor or developing countries like Brazil.

One day, this tendency will also reach them. These mega-tendencies of the civilization always appear in the most advanced environments, to then spread out around the world. It is what we see in relation to technology and other means offered by Science.

(BTA) But we can say that there are nations completely deprived from these blessings, as if there was a cordon between the developing world and them…

(EE) Yes, for now. Soon, the international community will realize the crying need of the rich to abolish the misery of the very poor, not only to preserve their wealth, but even their lives. Here is one of the big trumps of the age of terrorism (few usually see positive aspects in Terrorism). They have not yet reached this conclusion, but the longer they take, more tragedies will happen, until they bow to the facts: the great social and economic injustices that separate people and the humanistic necessity of overcoming this shameful disparity for mankind.

(BTA) What is the ideal number of children?

(EE) There is no ideal number. It varies according to temperament, psychological and moral structure and, mainly, the karmic programs for each individual. Therefore, each should listen to their intuition to know whether to have two, one or no children at all, or adopt a multitude of children in need, in a gigantic institution for abandoned children. The voice of conscience, the feeling of peace and accomplishment, or its opposite, despair, will make you see what must be done.

(BTA) What about those who believe it is an act of selfishness the choice of not having any children?

(EE) In depth, it is a very hasty and poor deduction. Obviously that there are people who are so self-centered that they cannot conceive sharing their lives with other people and devote themselves to the welfare of others or to love, expecting nothing in return. However, many of those who apply to the post, and indeed become parents, have exactly that profile and have children by convention, by the feeling of obligation or worst of all: to take emotional advantage from the relationship with their children, worried, for instance, with their own future in old age (expecting that their children sustain them later), or to compensate affective frustrations at interpersonal relationships with other adults. They are stingy souls that project their needs and frustrations on beings who cannot defend themselves properly, who can neither detect their true intentions nor process the destructive impacts on their personalities, still in formation. These parents bully, manipulate and turn, or try to turn, their children into puppets of their whims and personal dreams. It would be better that they did not have any children. Animals that are bred in captivity for slaughter are more harmless than they are. Besides, it is essential to consider the existence of the extreme opposite to this psych-moral condition, the other end of the spectrum, which goes from the unconditional generosity to the most hideous selfishness: some of those who consciously opt for not having children feel that they do not need to produce them biologically, for they have many, psychologically. More advanced spirits, in the pathway of evolution, see children in need of care and support, guidance and affection everywhere, in adults, elderly, rich or poor, educated or ignorant. For each of them, they have a portion of affection from their large capacity to love, developed through numerous reincarnations beyond the human average on Earth, and spread this love by handfuls, becoming pillars of entire communities, with their mature view and presence of generous and elder souls. It would be not only unfair but also incoherent, to fit them in the category of selfish, since they often forget about themselves, sacrificing unspeakable joys of forming a family, in order to serve the multitude of unknown people, who usually consist of beneficiaries that forget the blessings received from their devotion.

(BTA) Anything else to say about the subject?

(EE) No.

(BTA) Eugenia, would you have anything to say about the modern worship to movies, TV and pop music stars?

(EE) It is polytheism in disguise, with the garments of new values and models of culture. The crowd, still immature for a new transcendent understanding of God and inept for a truly spiritual experience, project their psychological need of worshipping towards human figures, unfortunately not always worthy of such reverence, and that represent to them the aspects of the Divine that they wish to incorporate to their own personality, such as self-sufficiency, strength, security, etc. It is for no other reason that these figures are called “idols”, a word from whence comes the entry “idolatry”. Often, some of them come to be called “gods”, as it happens in classical music, with the “divas” of operas.

(BTA) So we can say that is a negative phenomenon?

(EE) Hardly. It only represents a phase of psychological and spiritual development which will be naturally overcome, when the human creature assimilates all learning contents pertaining to this period. Even because many people who show themselves contrary to the manifestations of “fans”, from whence the word “fanaticism” comes from, are often idolaters themselves, but usually of their own ego or ideologies of dubious quality. The ability to place someone as the focus of one’s own admiration (“to fan” in English means to admire) is a sign of the evolution of feelings, what makes the individual more capable of great evolutionary flights toward the future, which does not happen with those with narcissistic fixations, since that selfishness crystallizes the consciousness in the most regrettable and vicious illusions, compromising the progress and happiness of the individual.

(BTA) In India, some men and women are worshipped as “divine incarnations”, those called by them of “avatars”.

(EE) And to some extent they are right, even because we all are manifestations of the divine in the world, in different ways and according to the level of evolution of each one. Jesus himself said in John and Matthew: “In truth I say, you are also gods and goddesses”. Worshipping highly evolved human creatures can be, for certain stages of development of the psyche, a methodological shortcut to assimilate one’s own “Divine Self”, because they have the physical representation of their own divine spark, which is activated through this symbolic projection, even though they are still far out from consciously understanding such subliminal process in the mysteries of their own consciousness. However, when the individual fails to hear his inner voice and follow his own path, thereby neutralizing himself because of someone else, that’s when idolatry happens, a sickly process of destruction of one’s own identity, in favor of divinizing someone else. It is not another thing that happens when, in the materialistic and superficial culture of today’s world, people fall in love and say they will do everything for “the love of their lives”. They are rationalizing a criminal attitude (because suicidal) in relation to themselves, eliminating the most valuable opportunities of growth and achievement, by defenestrating precious energies in counter-productive activities and efforts, such as perpetuating destructive relationships. One must do everything in the name of an ideal, of vocation and the voice of consciousness, never for one person or a group of people, even if they are one’s own children. If, however, we do everything for a group of people or even a particular person (though it is normally suspected) because this is our ideal, the situation is different. But between both psychological pictures, there is a subtle difference that separates sliding in a cable car from free fall. There are people who are idolaters of the family, children or relationships, and they seem worthy when they are devastated by the death or loss of someone, for more than the time needed for a healthy psychological mourning. These people, in fact, are sick and act in a vicious and stingy way. They need to free themselves from their fixations. No one is anyone’s property, nor can we ever build the bases of safety and meaning of our lives upon other people.

(BTA) That’s very strong, Eugenia.

(EE) It’s the truth.

(BTA) Could I say that the process of idolatry is based on what Karl Marx called “the opium of the people”, when referring to religion?

(EE) Indeed. Any human creature can be the focus of other’s idolatry, and, in fact, this is so more likely, as the more they have status for it. Therefore, no Being is more worthy of idolatry, at the eyes of whoever it is, than God himself. But God does not want idolatry. He wants awareness. That’s why those who are believers and idolaters, sooner or later, get disappointed and flee from religious circles frightened, cursing the Creator because He did not yield to their whims. The Divine Providence is undeterred by this order of events and often provides them. God wants conscious souls, free and builders of their own destiny and not passive and demented people, amid inflamed reproaches and pathetic genuflections. To imagine that the Supreme Being of the Universe would indulge in this kind of atavistic adoration would simply show a lot of ingenuousness. If conscious parents are not bothered about contradicting the wishes of a willful child, in order to educate them for their happiness, how could we expect that God would act differently?

(BTA) To which extent can we, in a more practical way, characterize the rise of idolatry? Sometimes, it seems that the reverence and devotion are mixed, in many aspects, with idolatry, is it not? Many devoted people, for instance, are held as fanatics, only because they put God first in their lives.

(EE) Yes, you said it well. The rise of idolatry can be seen when laziness and manipulation begin to creep in the mental processes and in the behavior of the individual. If someone fails to fulfill their responsibilities, play their role in the world and do their part in the drama of their lives, to rely upon someone or something considered superior, then we have a well characterized idolatry. There are other aspects, as we even began to mention, when we spoke of one not giving any importance to the inner voice, the voice of common sense and reason, to hide lucidity in the hypnotic processes of, as one would say: “brain wash”, or as we could say, in more modern words: to renounce the right thinking, pragmatic and lucid, for a doctrinal system of repetition of ready concepts, stagnant and considered immutable. But the most destructive aspect of idolatry, undoubtedly, is the renouncement of being and doing what we must, by shifting the focus of the conscience to something external.

(BTA)And what to say of those who, in general, consider religious people as fanatics?

(EE) First, they are fool and uninformed. Second, they are idolaters themselves, but of inferior idols, perhaps invisible to them, such as sex, money, power, status or their own hyper-inflated and sick ego. They are worthy of pity, because sooner or later, the later the worse, they will suffer dire consequences because of their flaw to focus, to assess and define the priorities in life. They forget what Jesus said, as one of the fundamental truths of His legacy of teachings: “Seek first the Kingdom of Heavens and Its Righteousness, and the rest will be added on to you”.

(BTA) Thank you very much, Eugenia.

(EE) You are welcome.

(BTA) Anything else to say about this?

(EE) No.
